Interview: Michael Woods

Michael Woods has sailed the seas of Dance music for many years, working ceaselessly to the top of the pile, where he unquestionably deserves his seat. His reputation as an essential booking for huge scale music gatherings across the planet is obvious to see by his continuous schedule of international bookings. It’s been twelve years since Michael’s legendary remix of Café Del Mar exploded onto the world stage and unlike many trailblazers of years gone by, Michael’s ability to evolve his productions and DJ sets alike have ensured that he remains a figurehead in the international House music league. Michael’s online subscribers exceed 150,000 – that many Dance music fans can’t be wrong. If you’re in hearing range of Michael Woods in the mix, you’re in extremely suitable hands.

This summer will see Michael joining the army of world beating acts that will be creating an atmosphere like nowhere else at Club Papaya on the perfect Zcre beach.

INTERVIEW

Michael, you’re tour diary is nothing short of enormous. What have been your highlights of 2012 so far?
So far I’ve done some amazing shows including two EDC festivals, one in New York and the other in Las Vegas, and one other show that really stands out was the Paradiso Festival at the Gorge, 3 hours east of Seattle. The scenery, along with the 25,000 ravers was totally breathtaking.

Have you played in, or visited Croatia before?
No, this is going to be my first time and I’m totally looking forward to it, as I’ve heard nothing but great things about it.

How would you describe your current sound?
I’d describe it as progressive sounds with a little bit of grit!

Your tip for this summers big hit in the super-clubs and festivals?

Where is your number one holiday destination?
If it’s a total holiday with nothing but chilling out I’d have to go back to the Maldives.

You’ve recently had dates in America, how is the huge ‘EDM’ movement changing events over there for you?
Shows are getting bigger and bigger and fans are getting more and more into the sound which is really good. Every time I go back to the States there seems to be more and more hype around EDM.

We’ve still got roughly half a year left, what’s in the pipeline in 2012 for you?
I’ve got two big singles to release towards the end of this summer, one is coming out on Ministry of Sound and is a track I released around 18 months ago called “No Access” but this version has the vocal treatment from the amazing Ester Dean. The other one is a track lots of people have been asking about and it’s a track I did with Littleboots and is called “I Wish”.

What do you want for your birthday?
A remote controlled helicopter

What was the last thing you broke?
My parent’s telephone
