Frankie Knuckles’ Birthday Celebrated with Unreleased DJ Mix
To celebrate the birthday of the late Frankie Knuckles, Defected Records is releasing a never-before-heard DJ mix, ‘Defected presents Frankie Knuckles In The House’, exclusively on Apple Music. The two-hour mix, compiled and mixed by Frankie Knuckles himself in 2011, is a testament to his enduring legacy in the house music scene.
The mix was originally intended for release as part of the ‘In The House’ series but was put on hold due to Frankie’s health at the time. Now, Defected is proud to make it available for the first time, in continuation of their work with the Frankie Knuckles Foundation and their commitment to supporting LGBTQIA+ communities and AIDS prevention.
According to Frederick Dunson of the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, “As stewards of Frankie’s legacy, we are thrilled and deeply honoured to share this previously unreleased project with his legion of fans. It beautifully captures his quintessential Director’s Cut sound in 2011, which has become synonymous with his name, mixed in classical FK style!”
In addition to the unreleased mix, Defected has also repressed ‘House Masters: Frankie Knuckles’ on vinyl due to overwhelming demand. The vinyl features extensive liner notes and photographs celebrating Frankie’s life and legacy, and includes his timeless originals alongside essential remixes.
A portion of the proceeds from the vinyl and accompanying Frankie Knuckles official merchandise will go to the Frankie Knuckles Foundation. The never-before-heard DJ mix, ‘Defected presents Frankie Knuckles In The House’, is available on Apple Music from January 16th. Listen now on Apple Music.
